A Funny Review: Trader Joe's Frozen Pancakes

Trader Joe's gluten-free and dairy-free frozen pancakes received positive reviews from some bloggers, so I was eager to try them. I decided to even purchase two boxes after hearing rave reviews from a store employee. The price is only $2.99. The pancakes are wrapped in four packages, each containing three pancakes.

I followed the instructions on the box and microwaved three pancakes in a stack. I couldn't believe that they could be so doughy! Next, I followed the instructions to microwave only one pancake and was able to roll it into three balls to make a snowman. Finally, I tried toasting two pancakes. The box lists toasting as the preferred method. Toasting still produced a very doughy pancake, which I rolled into a ball.

The pancakes can also be cooked in the oven, which I didn't try. I recommend these only for a gluten-free art project!

wow that is good to know! We'd always been curious to try them - usually if we don't make them from scratch, we use Van's, I think we'll just stick with those, they don't turn into snowmen haha!

Hi! I really like the Trader Joe's pancakes... I didn't find them too doughy at all! I found that you do need to push down the toaster at least twice to brown them up, and I've never microwaved them... I like mine with jam on them, as well as the traditional syrup.

I wonder if some boxes of the pancakes are better than others. I did toast mine for about 5 minutes in the toaster oven. It was darker and more crispy on the outside, but still doughy on the inside.

My son eats these a lot. He uses the micro to heat them up. He hasn't complained at all about them (and he finds something wrong with everything LOL). I wonder if they are just inconsistent? We prefer pancakes made from Pamela's Baking & Pancake Mix, but the frozen ones are nice to have on hand for busy mornings.

This is one of the funniest product reviews (and review photos!) I've ever seen! I make my own waffles, which I prefer to pancakes, because they're crunchy....so...I guess this product isn't for me, but I think this blog is--I'm putting you on my blogroll!

This is hilarious! Thanks for making me laugh. yes, they are UNBELIEVABLY chewy - it's as though the people who made them had no idea how to cook GF. I make (and freeze and reheat) pancakes all the time that taste... well, just like regular pancakes. I much prefer them. I just freeze them and then nuke or toast. But, I have to say, if you think of the TJ's pancakes as more of an Asian type of pancake - Similar to the texture of mochi and other sticky-rice products, they're ok.

Odd... I'm extremely taste-sensitive to gluten free flours. It has taken me quite a long time to get used to the different texture etc. but those pancakes have always been my go to decadent snack. I toast them on the highest setting, and then microwave for twenty seconds. They always come out browned, fluffy, and delicious!
